Big Weekend

This past weekend was a busy one, starting off with date night on Friday. Our church has a wonderful ministry where they provide free babysitting once a month. So we dropped the kids off and enjoyed a fine meal at Raffa's, a new restaurant in Kingwood.

We didn't stay out too late, however, as we had the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation walk to find a cure for diabetes in the morning. April's brother has diabetes, and thanks to generous contributions from friends and family, we were able to raise $235! Thanks to you all. For photos of the walk, click here.



Unfortunately, during the walk, we did not find the cure for diabetes, even though we looked all over for it. Maybe it's the walking itself that cures the disease? Anyway, all of April's siblings were there, except for Tommy and Ruth. At first we thought it was because they were pro-diabetes, but it turns out they had a good excuse: the birth of their daughter Elizabeth (Besty) Connell.

Finally we ended the weekend finally catching the movie Transformers, which we missed in the theater because, well, we don't get out to movies much. It was what we thought it would be: lots of special effects, predictable storyline and some corny dialogue. All it was missing was an Amish guy saying, "See?! I told you so!" Overall, we gave it a B.

So, exhausted, we start another week, but just to summarize:

1. All churches should have free babysitting (I think it's required in the book of Leviticus).
2. Walking does not cure diabetes.
3. We have a new niece.
4. We should listen to the Amish before it's too late.
