Finally...Football!

Yes, it's that wonderful time of year with the baseball playoffs fast approaching, college football underway and the NFL season on the cusp of beginning. Ah, autumn. Even though the leaves don't really change down in Texas and the weather goes from blistering-hot to really-really-hot, it's still my favorite season.

Per tradition, the Roche family made their football picks for this year, each member picking one team they think will win the Superbowl. However this year we had three kids going before everyone (picking order is determined by age first for the grand kids, then by random drawing) and they managed to throw a wrench into everyone else's plans, even though their picks were random as well, drawing team names out of a bucket. Here's how things shook out:

We'll see how things go, but hopefully Abilene is better at picking NFL teams than she is at Hide & Seek. She likes to employ the Ostrich Technique as you can see by the photo below:

Finally, we bid a sad farewell to the Weekly World News, the beacon of investigative journalism whose last printed edition hit the stands this past week. Out of nostalgia I grabbed a copy at the check-out line to see when aliens were bringing Elvis back and learn about the half man-half aligator terrorizing the southeast US.

This outrageous publication was an enjoyable, head-shaking humor filled part of my childhood, but I suppose at some point in life you outgrow learning about someone having Bigfoot's baby and how all members of Congress are robots controlled by a dictator who lives on the moon.
