Potty Training: The Ongoing Struggle

So we've been working with Brody on using the "big potty" for the past few weeks now. At first, he was very responsive and we thought, "Hey, this is going to be a snap!"

As usual, we were wrong and stupid, in that order.

Since then Brody has become indifferent to using the bathroom, realizing he doesn't have to cut into his precious play time if he can just go in his pants. Our efforts went from:
  1. Positive encouragement ("Yeah! Great job!) to
  2. Inquizitive ("Why don't you use the potty?") to
  3. Begging ("PLEASE use the potty!") to
  4. Ridiculing ("I guess you'll just keep wearing baby diapers.") to
  5. Low-level bribery mixed with despiration ("You can have some candy if you just use the potty, for the sweet love!").
Now we've pulled out the big guns. Realizing Brody's unwaivering love for the movie "Cars," we've promised him a pair of Lightening McQueen shoes with lights that blink when you walk (or in Brody's case, emit a constant beam of light as he runs around in circles for hours).

So far so good, as he has deemed these shoes the coolest thing on earth and really wants to have them. Seeing as we really don't want to change his diapers any more, it's a deal we're glad to make.

We just hope Abilene isn't paying attention and demands a pony before she uses the potty...

And no, they don't make an adult size pair of these shoes (I already checked...dang it).
