Pros/Cons of the Potty

We have been waiting for Abilene to be potty-trained for a while now. At first, she had no interest in it, but the last week or so, she has made remarkable improvements. Now she uses the potty all the time, and I truly mean that.

She is so proud of her new found skills that she goes every five minutes. We were so excited when she first started, but we never expected this. Not wanting to lose momentum or dash her spirits, we're now having to feign enthusiasm each time she goes.

"Yay! You did it...again...for the fifth time...in the last half-hour...yay..."

But she is so happy about her new ability. So much so that she has run into our bedroom first thing in the morning to declare "I used the potty!"

We're tracking her progress with a chart, giving her a sticker after every successful trip to the bathroom. But with her superhuman frequency, we're running low on stickers, enthusiasm and apple juice.

So we went from absolutely no desire to an uber-focus on using the potty, and have severe whiplash from the rapid ascent. But we're proud parents and one step closer to being diaper-free. Oh, how sweet that day will be!
