Tonight April was in the mood for Chinese food.
The regular restaurant we used for quick "To Go" orders changed ownership a couple of months ago, and increased their prices 50%, which is both crazy and insane: crazisane. Look it up; it's a word*.
So, our hunt began for a new place. Surprisingly, there is not an abundance of Chinese food restaurants in Humble, Texas. We briefly thought of opening our own, but then realized that would require us to buy Chinese food from another restaurant and then put it in different containers for our customers. That would cost a fortune, and is precisely why I believe our original restaurant increased their prices by 50%.
While we don't know how to cook our own Chinese food, we had the next best thing: two free dinner coupons at Panda Express that I was given six years ago. Through all our moves, I don't know how or why we managed to keep these things, but I took them to Panda Express tonight, hoping they would either honor them or at least have the decency not to laugh in my face.
To my amazement, we got our free dinners. Yes, Panda Express is not the top tier of Chinese cuisine, but somehow food tastes better when it's free and you have the satisfaction of knowing your efforts to keep up with two business card-sized coupons for most of your married life was justified.
Next step, get Starbucks to give me the $0.34 remaining on my gift card back in cash. Wish me luck.
